About Ki. E. Ka. e. V.

Brief profile

After the association was founded in 1997, the decision was made in 2004 to run daycare centers with flexible opening hours. Shortly thereafter, in 2006, the association's first project was launched: the opening of a daycare center in the Wedding social district, in cooperation with the Robert Koch Institute in Berlin-Mitte. The organization now operates five daycare centers, all of which are located in Berlin-Wedding and Gesundbrunnen.

Who we are

Ki.E.Ka. e.V. is composed of the words: Kinder. Erziehung. Karriere. which translate to Children. Education. Career. The work in our daycare centers is structured around these three cornerstones.

We focus on providing a balanced range of childcare and educational services for children that is both affordable and supports working parents. Our goal is to enable the guardians of the children in our care to actively and carefree return to work after parental leave or otherwise pursue their professional careers. We expressly include those who wish to complete school or university education. For these reasons, we offer care for children from the age of two months.

Bilingual concept

Guided by the sociocultural dynamics of the European Union and its values, we pursue a bilingual concept in all our facilities. Especially in a metropolis like Berlin, where a wide variety of cultures come together, the growing importance of cultural exchange on the one hand and the attachment to one's own culture for migrant families on the other is palpable.

We are therefore committed to promoting multilingualism among children in line with European ideals – both in the daycare centers themselves, where German-speaking and Italian-speaking educators work side by side, and with the help of a diverse German-Italian program that has been made possible through numerous collaborations.

Values

Our concept is based on the guidelines of the Berlin education program for pedagogically valuable care. Our daycare centers are also bilingual German-Italian facilities. The Schillerpark daycare center also works according to the naturopathic principles of Sebastian Kneipp.

Based on the holistic bilingual German-Italian concept of our daycare centers, there is close cooperation between the operator and the Italian Embassy in Berlin as well as the city of Formia (LT), located in the Italian region of Lazio.

Over the years, these successful collaborations have resulted in the following projects:

  • Italian language course at the Schiller Library in Berlin-Wedding for three- to six-year-old children
  • Italian language course at the Anna Lindh School from first grade onwards
  • Projects with the Italian Embassy to mark the anniversary of the Italian Constitution
  • Project on Leonardo da Vinci on the anniversary of the artist's death in cooperation with the Dante Alighieri Society Berlin
  • Project “The Adventures of Odysseus” financed by the Italian Embassy in Berlin
